Baby Yoga Classes

Baby Yoga

As you all know, breathing exercises or Pranayama teach how you can recharge your body and control your mental state by regulating the flow of Prana - the life force. This helps you achieve a calmer and more focused mind, and increases your energy level.

The parasympathetic nervous system supports our autonomic functions such as breathing, heart and metabolic rates, and restores balance. Conscious breathing and conscious execution of yoga postures actually strengthens nerve transmissions from the body to the brain, decreasing our stress and muscular tension. Fully supported, restorative yoga poses activate the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing anxiety, fear and anger to leave our minds.

In baby yoga we move, swing and dance with baby to help to develop the vestibular system. Baby yoga also helps to integrate information from many types of sensory experience through its multi discipline approach using music, movement and massage.

What is the main difference in Baby Massage and Baby Yoga?

The main difference in Baby massage and Baby Yoga is that baby massage focuses on stimulation and soothing and settling babies, where as baby Yoga focuses on developmental play and exercises. Baby massage relaxes the baby and calms him. Whereas Baby Yoga works on improving flexibility and activates the mind and enhances the sensory integration.

Yoga poses help to strengthen muscles by providing gentle exercise. We rely on our muscles to maintain our posture throughout our daily activities. The body’s sense of balance (vestibular system) and sense of body awareness (proprioceptive system) holds it upright against the forces of gravity. If we repeatedly hold the body in one position or posture for long periods, the posture of the body can change leading to over contracted muscles (e.g. rounded shoulders and protracted jaw.) Muscles can begin to tighten continually and out of habit to hold a misaligned posture. This can have effects on the skeletal system and the spine as muscles pull the skeletal system out of alignment and symmetry. Yoga helps realign the spine, relax over contracted muscles and allows the body to return to its optimum posture and position. This can help to ease muscular pain.
